Kenedi quit working 13 years ago when he injured his back on the job. Since then he has been living on a meager pension, barely making ends meet.

He really wanted to keep his 10 spot keno windfall quiet but the excitement of winning  $2,779,562  playing Keno was too much. So he popped the cork on a bottle of champagne and celebrated with his friends. Kenedi, a Macedonian migrant — named after US president John F. Kennedy — has decided not to reveal his surname.

The part-time gambler had been back from a trip to Macedonia for only a day when he dropped into the Jim Dandy Hotel and Casino when he put $50 on fifty 10 spot keno games. The he went on his way to play his favorite video poker machine.

Now, the rest of the story is history.

Kenedi is planning on buying a house to buy a house and getting a new car for his 18-year-old son. Plus he’s giving a handsome amount to a cancer charity. The first day of his new found wealth was spent  running errands for his family and getting his older car fixed.

The manager of the Jim Dandy Hotel, Marc Mifsud, is the one that had the joy of telling Kenedi that he had won the 10 spot Keno jackpot against incredible odds.

“I just couldn’t believe it. I was shocked. I couldn’t speak,” Kenedi told the Sunday Herald Sun.“When I could talk again I shouted all the pub drinks. This proves it , you really can win big at 10 spot Keno.”

Kenedi, 43, is now getting a grip his new celebrity status. Friends gathered around yesterday to congratulate him. One female patron even went down on bended knee and proposed to him.

The manager Mr Mifsud said the 10 spot keno win had put the hotel “on the map”. He said it was nice to see good things happening to good people. “Kenedi is a familiar face and no one deserves it more than him,” Mr Mifsud said. “He’s Dandenong’s newest millionaire.”

Keno’s state sales manager, David Dicker, congratulated Kenedi on the win, the first jackpot won in Victoria since the game’s April 2012 relaunch.

“Keno is all about bringing a little happiness, and the chance to win, to people like Kenedi,” Mr Dicker said. “It’s wonderful that Keno has been able to bring some joy to someone who has been doing it tough.”

Kenedi said the money would not change him as a person. His elated mates agreed as the champagne flowed yesterday in honour of his winning numbers: 8, 17, 24, 30, 37, 38, 66, 68, 71 and 78.
